Movie Review Of "Seventh Son"

My first movie to be reviewed will be "Seventh Son" movie. I will be listing some good and bad things about the movie while kind of giving it a summary of what happens. There is a lot of ****SPOILERS **** in this review so if you haven't seen the movie yet I wouldn't read this further until after watching it.

Seventh Son Movie starts off with Jeff Bridges Character "Master Gregory" who had imprisoned a very powerful Queen witch "Mother Malkin" played by Julianne Moore. This sets up the beginning where Mastery Gregory has trapped the queen Witch in a dungeon to be locked away for eternity. We don't know at the beginning of the movie but Mastery Gregory used to be in love with Mother Malkin until she betrayed him by killing a wife of his. This first parts sets up the story well so there isn't anything negative to write about the beginning here.

I have seen a lot of reviews that have stated how terrible Jeff Bridges was playing "Master Gregory". On the contrary I thought that throughout the movie Jeff Bridges was fantastic in setting up humor throughout the movie keeping some laughs in the movie but at the same time being serious when it came down to it. For those that have seen it you know what I'm talking about those bits and pieces where jokes come in and are pretty much the funny points of the movie.

Master Gregory starts off the movie with Kit Harrington "Mr. Bradley" who is an apprentice of his that he had been training for years. Since at the beginning of the movie Mother Malkin had escaped it was up to Master Gregory and Mr. Bradley to capture the beast and lock her away again. They pretty much had her in a net but when she was thrown into the cage she used her tail to pull in Mr. Bradley as well and then ended up killing him. I will take a stance here and say that this is a bad point in the movie. I rather liked Mr. Bradley and maybe he could have stayed throughout the movie instead of dying off. Could have the movie been better had Mr. Bradley stayed alive? Quite possibly but I thought the movie was still good nonetheless.

Next in the movie Master Gregory sets off to find the Seventh son that will need to be trained as a spook -- this is what the movie coins Master Gregory as a ghost/witch hunter. Mastery Gregory finds the Seventh Son Tom Ward played by Ben Barnes. Throughout the movie Master Gregory teaches Tom Ward about how to be a spook and what is needed to live as one. The only problem I have here is that I wish the training part of the movie was longer but that isn't the Director or the Movies' fault because there is only so much you can put into a one hour and forty minute movie. Quite possibly they could have extended production to allow the movie to be a little longer but that's my beef with that part.

Like most movies there is always a love story in it. In this movie Tom Ward meets Alice, played by Alicia Vikander, who is a witch that falls in love with Tom. Throughout the movie they are each on opposite sides. Of course what they don't tell you at the beginning of the movie is that Master Gregory used to be in love with the evil witch queen Mother Malkin. But Master Gregory tells Tom Ward to stay away from Alice because the same cycle might be repeated. I saw a lot of reviews that stated how the story and plot was weak. I guess if you are comparing it to an A list movie but like I have stated many times not all movies can be blockbuster movies. But the story that is in place works well and it is enough to satisfy the audience.

Throughout the movie there are some action pieces which is good along the way. It keeps the movie entertaining while it progresses with the story. I guess they could have added a little more fighting and a little more action but the parts of action they do add in there are done well. For instance the scene where Master Gregory and Tom Ward are fighting a big bear. That was a pretty intense scene and maybe if they added more scenes like that one they could have increased the action of the movie.

The movie ends well like all Hollywood movies there are multiple fight scenes between each character and the movie does have a good ending in that Master Gregory is able to retire and Tom Ward takes his place. Although Master Gregory hinted at Tom to stay away from Alice, he also said to live his life the way he would want to live it. Overall the movie seemed to move along quite nicely as I felt that the time went fast while watching the movie. I did not stare at my watch or say to myself "when is this movie going to end"? If you like fantasy type films then this is a good movie to enjoy. It may not be as powerful and well written as the "Lord of the Rings" movie series. But what the Seventh Son movie ends up being is a nice film that keeps you entertained throughout the entire time. From bits of action in between talk scenes and some decent comedic factors I think the movie is done pretty well. For those who have seen it let me know below with a few comments. How was the movie in terms of fun factor? Did you enjoy sitting down to watch the movie? Could there have been things the Director could have done to improve the movie?
