Movie Review of "Insurgent"

The next movie to be reviewed will be "Insurgent" movie. I will be listing some good and bad things about the movie while kind of giving it a summary of what happens. There is a lot of ****SPOILERS **** in this review so if you haven't seen the movie yet I wouldn't read this further until after watching it.

For starters before going on with this review readers should know that that is a sequel to another movie known as "Divergent" so if you haven't seen that movie yet either I would recommend you see that first before watching "Insurgent".

The movie starts off with Trice played by "Shailene Woodley" and Four -- also known as Tobias Eaton --  played by Theo James going on the run trying to figure out how they are gonna take down the evil leader of the Erudite, Jeanine, played by "Kate Winslet".

At the beginning Trice, Four, and Peter -- played by "Miles Teller" are in the peaceful Amity Stronghold. There they devise their next move and decide what they should do next. Although things quickly heat up as Jeanine of Erudite needs a "Divergent" to open the box by completing all the trials. She sends her army to go and see if they can find Divergents for the experiment. When the Erudite army gets to the Amity Strong hold they search for Divergents but end up finding Trice, Four and Peter. The man to lead the Erudite soldiers is an old friend from the Dauntless faction Eric, played by "Jai Courtney". Eric attempts to apprehend the group but fails to get them. Although Peter is the one who revealed where they were and decides to change sides temporarily. I liked this part because it sets up past faction members against each other and creates a nice plot point for the movie. I also like how the movie begins with some much needed gun fighting action as it allows the audience to ease into the movie nicely.

The movie then follows Trice and Four who meet up with a faction-less group that doesn't belong to any type of faction. The leader of the group is Four's Mom who is responsible for trying to lead the faction-less group against Jeanine and Erudite. The problem is that the group is pretty big in size but they need Four and Trice's Dauntless group as well to come together to overthrow Erudite. I thought that this was a good part of the movie as well but they could have done a little more to spruce it up. They could have added a few more scenes where Trice and Four interacted more with the faction-less group. Nonetheless during this time Trice was forced to go to Jeanine to do her experiment trial to open the box that needs a divergent.

Towards the end of the movie Trice goes to Jeanine and the movie shows a couple of scenes where Trice is doing the trials to open the box. This was my favorite element of the movie in that Trice was completing certain trial in a virtual world but if she died in it it would kill her permanently. But before this Trice had met her brother Caleb Prior played by Ansel Elgort, once again since the first movie "Insurgent". Peter from the beginning of the movie who switched sides, decided to switch back again to Trice's side and helped her escape along with Four who came back with Dauntless and Faction-less to rescue Trice along with taking out Jeanine of Erudite. I liked this surprise in the movie because it was unexpected for Peter to switch sides again so I think the movie did a good thing by creating suspense on this part.

Anyways at the end of the movie Trice completes the final trial and unlocks the secret to the box. The truth was that divergents were not the problem but the five factions were the problem. Divergents who take all factions were the thing that combined all factions into one. Jeanine made every effort to eradicate Divergents but she ended up being wrong. The people who built the cube finally allowed the factions to go past the gate with their people. Before that all factions were always known to be inside of a wall where they could never leave. I liked the ending of the insurgent movie itself, but I haven't read the books so I can't comment on the books at all.

But overall the movie was really good as there is a lot of action, love, and drama in it. It is one of those movies that keep you entertained straight through where you don't realize how much time has passed. With this movie I thought it was well done other than wanting to see more of Faction-less in the middle part of the movie, it was a very enjoyable movie to watch. What would you have done different if you were the director of the movie? Would you change any of the scenes around or keep the movie just the way it is?

Movie Review Of "RunAllNight"

The next movie to be reviewed will be "RunAllNight" movie. I will be listing some good and bad things about the movie while kind of giving it a summary of what happens. There is a lot of ****SPOILERS **** in this review so if you haven't seen the movie yet I wouldn't read this further until after watching it.

The movie starts off with Liam Neeson's character "Jimmy Conlon" in a bar thinking about what has happened to his life and why he keeps having nightmares about all those people he had assassinated on certain jobs. Much of the audience at this time won't know why the movie begins like this but by the end of the movie it wraps it up greatly so it will make sense later. Having said that we like the beginning setup of the movie. In addition Jimmy talks to a "Detective" played by Vincent Dinofrio who wants to arrest Jimmy with more proof about all those people he had assassinated a long time ago. The detective can be seen later throughout the movie a few times.

The movie then has "Shawn Maguire" played by Ed Harris chat with Jimmy Conlon about being his friend and protecting him till the end of time. Shawn Maguire has a son "Danny Maguire" who brings him a business consult with a major drug dealer. Shawn Maguire though isn't happy with this arrangement and tells his son to forget about the deal. The problem with this is that Danny has already received money from these drug dealers in exchange that he would be able to make a deal with his father. This initial setup in the movie was a good idea as it creates multiple conflict points between each character who is struggling with some type of problem.

Danny Maguire then decides to invite the drug dealers over to his place to pretend to give them their money back. The catch of this movie is that Jimmy Conlon has a son named "Mike Conlon" played by Joel Kinnaman who is a driver for various clients. In this instance he was driving these drug dealers to Danny Maguire's location. Mike has been doing a mentor program so he sees the kid he mentors come out onto the street and tries to convince him to go home. But the kid stays there with them and they both witness Danny Maguire killing the last drug dealer out on the street. This was a pretty good twist in the movie because the audience never saw this conflict occurring. Therefore the director did an excellent job of creating a suspenseful moment and keeping the audience interested.

Mike saw everything and quickly goes home to see if his daughters and wife "Gabrielle" played by Genesis Rodriguez are safe from harm from Danny. A surprise knock on the door comes out of nowhere and it is pretty spooky at first. Anyways while the audience believes it to be Danny coming right away to kill Mike it ends up being Mike's father Jimmy. They exchange a few words and then Jimmy leaves the house but decides to wait outside in case there is a problem of some sort. Danny finds the house and decides to go in to kill Mike and they struggle. But Jimmy who has been an assassin for the Maguire's for years has to end up killing Danny before he can shoot his son Mike. This was a good part of the movie because it sets up the synopsis for the rest of the movie.

For the rest of the movie Jimmy is forced to protect his son Mike from the police and from Shawn Maguire's henchman who are trying to kill them both for revenge over his son's death. There are a lot of car chases, gun sequences, and other cool action packed parts. We have to say that the movie did well with all the action sequences so if you are a full blown action fan you will definitely like this movie a lot it doesn't disappoint in that department. I like the different action aspects of the movie where there are multiple different locations that fighting takes place. At one point Shawn hires a hitman to chase after both Jimmy and Mike throughout the movie as well.

Towards the end of the movie Jimmy comes after Shawn Maquire and ends up chasing him down and killing him. But does so in a manner where he still respects him even as he is dying because they had been through so much together over the years. Jimmy goes to the cabin to meet his son Mike, Gabrielle, and two grandchildren. Jimmy says he wants to turn himself in and ends up meeting the rest of the family. As Jimmy waits in the cabin Mike, Gabrielle, and the kids go out by the lake area. The hired hitman goes after them and Jimmy is quick to help them out. As Mike is close to being killed by the hitman Jimmy is already wounded but gets one last good shot into the hitman. As Jimmy lays there dying he holds in his hand a note in which he wants to confess all the assassination he had done during his career. This comes back to where I mentioned about the lead detective wanting to find out the names of the people he had killed. That was a good move in the movie because it captures  a sense that Jimmy all along was not a cold-blooded killer but wanted to clear his conscious.

Overall we liked the movie it created a good story line both at the beginning and at the end. It kept the audience engaged through car chasing, gun fights, and other thriller type action sequences. This was a well made movie and it seems that Liam Neeson just might be back in the game. The other movies Liam did like the "Taken" franchise were good too, just in our opinion not as good as "RunAllNight" was. What did you think of the movie? Do you think the directors did a good job of keeping the audience engaged? Were there any parts of the movie you would have changed to make it better?

Movie Review Of "Chappie"

The next movie to be reviewed will be "Chappie" movie. I will be listing some good and bad things about the movie while kind of giving it a summary of what happens. There is a lot of ****SPOILERS **** in this review so if you haven't seen the movie yet I wouldn't read this further until after watching it.

The movie starts off with a lot of police droids monitoring the city and maintaining law. These droids, which are lightweight and have structures like humans, were created by a guy in the movie named Deon Wilson -- played by Dev Patel. His creations are the perfect police droids but there is an opposition in the movie. Because Vincent Moore -- played by Hugh Jackman -- is trying to get his huge robot droid approved for use but is nowhere near good as Deon Wilson's droids. I actually like the setup in the movie because it allows for a good conflict in the movie. Without this conflict the movie concept would have been flat.

Deon Wilson though is seen through the movie struggling to create a program that will give a robot the ability to have feelings and think like a human. This leads Deon Wilson to steal a droid that was almost destroyed in a previous gun battle against a gang of criminals. Deon is able to upload a chip that is able to give the robot the ability to learn stuff like a human. This is a good setup for the movie because it allows the robot to learn stuff and keep the movie interesting. In addition it adds a lot of comedic elements to the movie that keeps the audience entertained so it was a welcomed addition.

Before this droid being hurt in a battle with criminals another gang leader known as Ninja played by "Watkin Tudor Jones" is trying to pay off a debt to those criminals from the beginning of the movie. NInja has a squad of people under his belt including his love interest Yolandi Visser. Together they need to pay back millions of dollars to a major criminal mastermind in order to avoid death. Ninja and his crew decide to kidnap Deon Wilson to try and get him to turn off all the robots he has created. Although Deon states that he is unable to do so but the robot he has with him named "Chappie" by Yolandi is to be used by them. Deon sets conditions that he wants to come by and teach the robot how to do art and learn other types of stuff. This part of the movie confused me because they had chappie acting like a kid while learning new stuff. I think this brought about the wrong sense of the movie because a robot can learn to do stuff without acting like a child. The main premise of the movie was that the robot starts off as a child and then learns to do stuff like humans.

Ninja teaches the robot to do gang stuff like steal cars, and commit crime. On the other hand Deon wants to teach the robot how to be a human and do good deeds. Throughout the movie Chappie becomes attached to Yolandi, who defends him a lot from Ninja. I think that this part of the movie was pretty dull they could have spiced up this part of the script slightly by adding a few other things. Maybe they could have had Chappie go out with Yolandi into the city and get reactions from the townsfolk -- the movie just needed something different.

During this time Vincent is plotting to shutdown all the police droids in the city so that Sigourney Weaver's character -- plays a company CEO that decides about what robots are used for police use -- can approve Vincent's big robots. Towards the end of the movie Chappie is approved for death by the company CEO and Hugh Jackman goes to kill Chappie with his big clunky operated droid robot. At this time the main mastermind criminal from the beginning of the movie goes after Ninja and his crew. Deon goes to save his robot Chappie, and Chappie attempts to protect all the people he is attached too. Chappie is able to take out Vincents big droid and then later on Vincent ends up being crushed by Chappie. This part of the movie adds a lot of action so it is a good part of the movie. The only problem is that this action comes at the end of the movie only. To make the movie better the director should have had more action throughout the movie not just the beginning and end.

In the end of the movie Deon Wilson is hurt but chappie finds a way to transfer his consciousness to another robot body like his. This allows Deon to live as a droid like chappie at the end of the movie. In addition Yolandi dies but chappie saved his "mother" -- Yolandi -- by putting her mind on a hard drive stick. The movie ends with Chappie and his creator Deon living together with Ninja and then activating Yolandi. I think the end part of the movie is pretty good so I have no argument there. The movie overall was pretty good for watching some action and comedic elements. There were some points in the movie that could have been touched up slightly to keep the audience a little more engaged. The script could have used some fine tuning as well. Overall it was a good movie and should get a decent amount of sales but it is not a blockbuster type movie.
